Nakshatra — the lunar mansion
A Nakshatra is one of 27 equal divisions of the sidereal zodiac, each spanning 13°20′ of the sky. The Moon transits one Nakshatra roughly every 24 hours. Each is further divided into four Padas (quarters of 3°20′). Your Janma Nakshatra — the lunar mansion the Moon occupied at your birth — is considered the most personal point in your chart. It rules your emotional nature, the dasha lord you're born under, and the deity, symbol and planetary energy that shape your life's tone.
Timing
Vimshottari Dasha — the 120-year cycle
Vimshottari Dasha is the primary Vedic timing system. It assigns a 120-year cycle of planetary rulerships beginning from your Janma Nakshatra. The cycle nests three deep: Mahadasha (major periods of 6–20 years), Antardasha (sub-periods within), and Pratyantardasha (sub-sub-periods). Where transits show daily weather, dasha shows the season — when career rises, when love arrives, when challenges concentrate.
Almanac
Panchang — the five limbs
The Vedic daily almanac: Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra, Yoga (Sun–Moon angle) and Karana (half-tithi). Together they reveal which moments of the day are auspicious.
Charts
Vargas — divisional charts
Sub-charts that zoom into specific life areas: D1 Rasi (overall life), D9 Navamsa (marriage & dharma), D10 Dashamsa (career), and 13 more.
Calibration
Lahiri ayanamsa
The offset between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs. Solo.Surya defaults to Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) — the official ayanamsa of Indian Vedic astrology — for accurate sidereal positions.
Auspicious time
Muhurta & Rahu Kalam
Muhurta identifies auspicious windows for new beginnings. Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda and Gulika mark periods to avoid. The app surfaces both daily.
Compatibility
Ashtakoota Guna Milan
The eight-fold compatibility scoring of two charts. Solo.Surya computes all eight kootas and the Bhakoot/Nadi doshas for honest, classical synastry.
Geography
Astrocartography — planetary geography
Each planet in your chart projects four lines around the Earth — Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and Nadir. Standing under a Jupiter line feels different from standing under a Saturn line. Solo.Surya draws every line for every planet, so you can see which places amplify love, ambition, growth, or stillness for your chart specifically.
