How to write a good Halloween caption

Say what the photo isn't saying. If the costume is scary, make the caption boring. If the costume is silly, make it deadly serious.

• Play against the picture. A terrifying ghost captioned "laundry day got out of hand" beats "so spooky!"
• Use one pun, not three. One is charming. Three is a greeting card.
• Add a detail only you know. "the costume didn't last the night" makes people ask.
• Post close to the day. Halloween posts are mostly looked at in the last week of October and the first days of November.
• Tag whoever is under the sheet. Nobody can tell otherwise.
