Slidebox Alternatives: An Honest Comparison

Disclosure: I make Solo.Swipe, one of the apps below. To keep this fair, every fact about the other apps comes from their US App Store pages, checked on 1 November 2026, and I say where Slidebox is the better choice. Nobody paid to be listed. Prices change, so check the App Store before you buy.

Quick answer

Slidebox is still a strong pick if sorting into albums is your main job: it's an Apple Editors' Choice with 4.8 stars from 16.7K US ratings, and it lists a one-time purchase. Look elsewhere if you want blur and blink shortlists and a daily habit with no weekly plan (Solo.Swipe), AI pre-sorting (Flic), similar-photo groups and video compression (Clever Cleaner), or a memory map and On This Day (Swipewipe).

Slidebox has been around since 2015, and it's good at what it does: swipe through your photos and file them into albums. So the useful question isn't whether it's bad. It's what you want that it doesn't list, and which app does that. Here's the comparison, including the reasons to stay put.

What does Slidebox do well?

Album sorting, older devices and a pay-once option. From its App Store page:

Why might you want a Slidebox alternative?

Because of what you want from the app, not because Slidebox is broken. I'm not repeating complaints here, just what its page does and doesn't list:

How do the plans, ads and devices compare?

Slidebox, Swipewipe, Clever Cleaner and Picnic list weekly plans; Solo.Swipe, Flic and Slider don't. Flic and Clever Cleaner are the ones listing a lifetime price besides Slidebox.

Which features does each app have?

Of these, only Slidebox and Solo.Swipe list filing into albums as you go. The others focus on deleting.

“—” means the App Store description doesn't mention it; the app may still have it. Quoted phrases are the apps' own wording. Solo.Swipe's row is from its own source code and release notes.

What do their privacy labels say?

Slidebox lists nothing as used to track you; Solo.Swipe and Swipewipe do. These are the developers' own answers on the App Store, which Apple doesn't verify.

AppData Used to Track YouData Linked to YouData Not Linked to You
SlideboxNone listedNone listedUser Content (Photos or Videos), Usage Data, Diagnostics
Solo.SwipeLocation, Identifiers, Usage DataNone listedCoarse Location, Identifiers, Usage Data, Purchases, Diagnostics

From the App Privacy section of each US App Store page, checked 1 November 2026. Read the full label before you install anything that gets access to your photos.

That's a real point for Slidebox over my own app: Solo.Swipe's free version shows Google AdMob ads, and that's what puts data on its tracking label. Photos themselves never leave your device in Solo.Swipe.

Which Slidebox alternative should you pick?

The one that adds what you're missing.

Solo.Swipe, if you want albums plus cleanup help

It keeps album filing (swipe up, or create a new album inline), and adds Blurry and Closed Eyes shortlists, Largest 20 videos, an Empty Albums finder, a daily space goal and streaks, with no weekly plan. Skip it if you want an ad-free free version, similar-photo comparison (duplicates are exact pairs only), a lifetime purchase or Android. It's also far newer, with no US ratings yet.

Flic, if you want the app to pre-sort

A “likely junk” queue, a daily “Best 25” and decks built around storage targets, with no ads on its label. Skip it if you need albums, iPad or a language other than English, or your iPhone can't run iOS 18.

Clever Cleaner, if you want one big storage purge

Similar-photo groups with a “Best Shot”, video compression and a lifetime option, with no ads on its label. Skip it if you want album sorting or a habit, or a native iPad app.

Swipewipe, if nostalgia is half the fun

A memory map, On This Day, streaks and a widget. Skip it if you dislike weekly pricing, your device can't run iOS 18, or you'd rather not download 241.5 MB. Swipewipe alternatives compared.

Apple Photos, if you only need duplicates gone

It's free and already installed. The Duplicates album finds exact duplicates and merges them. There's no swiping, and no blur or blink help. More on what Photos can and can't find.

When should you stay with Slidebox?

If it already does the job. Stay if album sorting is what you came for, if you already paid for lifetime, if you need Android too, or if you want a long-established app with thousands of reviews. Switching apps won't clean your camera roll by itself. Using one regularly will.

How do you switch from Slidebox without losing anything?

Your photos stay in Apple Photos, so switching mostly means tidying up two things.

  1. Finish what's in progress

If you've queued photos for deletion in Slidebox, finish that first. If you used its album cloud storage, check Slidebox's own help pages before you uninstall. Slidebox says it works directly with the Photos app, so your library itself stays where it is.

  2. Cancel the subscription, if you have one

Deleting an app doesn't cancel its subscription. Go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions, tap the app and cancel there.

  3. Check Recently Deleted before you empty it

Anything you deleted recently waits there for 30 days. It's your last chance to bring something back.

Questions

Is Slidebox free?

It's free to download, the App Store page says it contains ads and has in-app purchases, and its description mentions paid plans for “10,000+ photos and album cloud storage”. The page doesn't spell out the free version's limits.

Which Slidebox alternatives have no weekly plan?

Of the apps above, Solo.Swipe, Flic and Slider list no weekly plan on their US App Store pages, checked on 1 November 2026.

Does Solo.Swipe do what Slidebox does?

It does the main thing: you can file photos into albums while swiping. It doesn't compare similar photos (its Duplicates tool finds exact pairs only), it has no lifetime purchase and no Android version. It adds blur and blink shortlists, Largest 20 videos, an Empty Albums finder and habit tools.

Is there a Slidebox alternative with no ads?

Flic, Clever Cleaner and Slider don't carry the “Contains ads” label on their US App Store pages. Solo.Swipe's free version does show ads; Pro removes them.

Do I lose my photos if I delete Slidebox?

Slidebox says it works directly with your Photos app, so your library stays in Apple Photos. If you used its album cloud storage, check its help pages first, and remember that deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
