Swipe Photo Cleaner Apps Compared: Honest Notes, October 2026

Disclosure: I make Solo.Swipe, one of the eight apps below. To keep this fair, every fact about the other apps comes from its US App Store page, checked on 15 October 2026, and each one is linked. I haven't ranked them, and the page says where a competitor is the better choice. Prices change, so check the App Store before you buy.

Quick answer

Pick by how you want to clean. If you want the app to pre-sort for you, look at Flic or Clever Cleaner. For unlimited free swiping without ads, Clever Cleaner's description promises both. If sorting into albums is the main job, Slidebox (an Apple Editors' Choice) or Solo.Swipe. For a small daily habit on iPhone and iPad with blur and blink shortlists you review card by card and no weekly plan, Solo.Swipe. On 15 October 2026, Solo.Swipe, Slider and Flic were the only three of the eight with no weekly plan listed.

“Tinder for photos” apps all look alike from the outside: a card, a swipe left, a swipe right. The differences are in what you pay, what the free version allows, whether it runs on your iPad, and how much the app decides for you. This page lines those up side by side.

What should you compare before choosing a photo cleaner?

Five things: the price model, the free version's limits, your devices, how much the app decides for you, and what it does with your data. The swipe itself is the same everywhere.

How do the plans, free versions and devices compare?

Five of the eight list a weekly plan; Solo.Swipe, Slider and Flic don't. Four run natively on iPad. Here's the full picture from each App Store page.

Which features does each swipe cleaner have?

They split into two camps: apps that pre-sort your photos with AI (Flic, Clever Cleaner) and apps that show you every photo and let you decide. Solo.Swipe is in the second camp, with optional suggestion lists you can open when you want them.

Which swipe photo cleaner should you pick?

The one whose trade-offs you can live with. Here's who each app suits, including where it's the better choice over Solo.Swipe.

Solo.Swipe

Pick it if you want a 5-minute daily habit, filing into albums mid-swipe, blur and blink shortlists you review card by card, an iPad or iOS 16 device, and no weekly plan.

Skip it if you want an ad-free free version, similar-photo grouping, compression or a lifetime purchase.

Clever Cleaner

Better choice if you want one big storage purge: similar-photo groups with a best shot, video compression, unlimited free swiping and no ads, per its description.

Skip it if you want albums or a habit system, or a native iPad app.

Flic

Better choice if you'd like the app to pre-sort: a “likely junk” queue, a daily “Best 25” and decks built to hit a storage target. No ads.

Skip it if you need iPad or a language other than English, or your iPhone can't run iOS 18. The free version is 50 swipes a day.

Slidebox

Better choice if album sorting is the main job and you prefer to pay once: it lists lifetime prices, and its page shows an Apple Editors' Choice award.

Skip it if you want blur or blink detection or streaks; its description doesn't mention them.

Swipewipe

Pick it if nostalgia is half the fun: a memory map, On This Day, streaks and a widget, in 12 languages.

Skip it if you dislike weekly pricing or your device can't run iOS 18.

Picnic

Pick it if you like an archive-first flow (swipe left to archive, empty it later) and 100 free swipes a day.

Skip it if you need iPad, or your iPhone can't run iOS 17.

Slider

Pick it if you want something tiny (15.6 MB) and video-friendly with one annual plan.

Skip it if you want detection, albums or habit features; its description doesn't mention them.

Photo Cleaner ®

Pick it if all you want is month-by-month swiping with a final confirmation.

Skip it if you need iPad, a language other than English, or no weekly plan.

What's a good Swipewipe alternative?

It depends on why you're leaving. If it's weekly pricing: Slider (one annual plan), Solo.Swipe (monthly or yearly) or Flic (monthly, annual or lifetime) list no weekly plan. If your iPhone can't run iOS 18: Solo.Swipe, Slidebox, Slider, Clever Cleaner, Photo Cleaner and Picnic all support older versions (see the table). If you want similar-photo grouping, Clever Cleaner groups similar shots and marks the best one. Full Swipewipe alternatives comparison, updated 1 November 2026.

What's a good Slidebox alternative?

Slidebox is built around sorting photos into albums as you swipe, so look for apps that keep that. Solo.Swipe does it with a swipe up (or creates a new album inline) and adds blur and blink suggestions, an Empty Albums finder and a habit layer. If what you liked about Slidebox was paying once, its own lifetime option is hard to beat; Clever Cleaner and Flic also list lifetime prices. Full Slidebox alternatives comparison, updated 1 November 2026.

Is Apple's Photos app enough on its own?

For a once-a-year tidy-up, often yes. Apple's Photos app already does a lot, and it costs nothing:

What a swipe app adds is a different way of working: one photo at a time, a decision per swipe with undo, filing into albums as you go, and a session small enough to finish. If you want to keep up weekly rather than dig out yearly, that's where apps like these earn their place.

Where Solo.Swipe is weaker

  • The free version has ads (an ad card every 5 swipes) and a limit of 50 deletions a day, plus 20 per optional ad.
  • It doesn't group similar-looking photos. Duplicates means exact pairs: same capture second, same size.
  • It doesn't compress videos or convert Live Photos.
  • Smart Modes, Duplicates and Large Files need Pro, or an ad per feature per day.
  • Its blur and blink modes check a random sample (up to 20 results per run) and don't look for a better retake, so you review every suggestion.
  • There's no lifetime purchase, and it's new (first released April 2026), so it has far fewer reviews than the established apps.

Questions

Is there a Tinder-style app for deleting photos?

Yes, several. Swipe photo cleaners show one photo at a time: swipe left to delete and right to keep. All eight apps on this page work that way; Solo.Swipe adds swipe up to file into an album and swipe down to skip.

Which photo cleaner apps don't have a weekly subscription?

Of the eight compared here, on 15 October 2026 Solo.Swipe (monthly or yearly), Slider (annual) and Flic (monthly, annual or lifetime) listed no weekly plan on their US App Store pages. Swipewipe, Slidebox, Photo Cleaner, Picnic and Clever Cleaner listed weekly options.

Which swipe photo cleaners work on iPad?

Solo.Swipe, Swipewipe, Slidebox and Slider list iPad in their App Store compatibility. Clever Cleaner's description says it works on iPad in compatibility mode. Photo Cleaner, Picnic and Flic are listed for iPhone only.

Are photo cleaner apps safe to use?

Look for two things: a review step before anything is deleted, and deletion through iOS so items go to Recently Deleted, where Apple keeps them for 30 days. Solo.Swipe has a Final Review screen, then the iOS confirmation. Also read each app's App Privacy section on the App Store before installing.

Do photo cleaner apps upload my photos?

Several of these apps say on their App Store pages that photos stay on the device or are processed locally, including Slider, Picnic, Flic and Clever Cleaner. Solo.Swipe's photos never leave your iPhone, but the app does send usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase (you can turn them off in Settings › Privacy › Share Usage Data) and shows Google AdMob ads in the free version. Check the App Privacy section of any app you consider.
